Overview:

  • Install or repair cabling and infrastructure used in telecom systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform advanced work operations in accordance with customer’s instructions for the installation of exchanges
  • Perform installation planning
  • Install, maintain, and repair telecom distribution and transmission systems, including superstructure, network equipment, conduits, industrial batteries, DC power and signal cables, cable rack and fiber guide systems and related equipment 
  • Submit redline drawings and all required project documentation on time
  • Able to read and understand simple mechanical, electrical, engineering and instructional documentation 
  • Adhere to safety practices and procedures
  • Drive vehicles equipped with tools and materials to job sites
  • Travel to customer’s facility 
  • Work on energized low voltage DC circuits

Required Skills:

All activities are subject to repetitive and extensive labor.  Extended hours may be required by the customer.  Work assignments take place in various facilities and environments both in and outside of the Customer facilities, including but not limited to stairs and rooftops.

  • Ability to travel between destinations via employers preferred mode of transportation to include rental vehicles and flying.
  • Able to read and fully comprehend blueprints/floor plans
  • Able to read and write simple mechanical, electrical, engineering, and instructional documentation
  • Possess leadership skills, be able to train and convey instructions to subordinate employees
  • Able to ascend and descend ladders repeatedly and work in elevated spaces up to 20’
  • Able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and transport up to 100 yards while safely maneuvering equipment and materials
  • Able to work on feet for entire shift 
  • Ability to competently use basic hand and electric tools (Telecommunication Industry Standards) 
  • Able to repeatedly pull large DC power cabling overhead and in confined spaces
  • Know standard Telco color code
  • Use DMM & Amp Clamp proficiently
  • Know basic electrical theory
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills. Ability to use logic and reasoning to determine the cause of operating errors and suggest solutions for resolution 
  • Complete all applicable reports and required project documentation on a daily basis and submit electronically
  • Able to follow established procedures to complete required tasks
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing 
  • Ability to take direction and to work on projects with minimal supervision

Education & Experience:

  • Completed certification training and testing to labor grade
  • High School Diploma or Post-Secondary Certificate, preferred
  • Verifiable experience in the telecom field as an installer, min. 3 years
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Pass a physical examination
  • Negative drug screen
  • RF Awareness Training
  • OSHA 10/30
